Shake Rattle & Roll

Lucas shook a rattle today! Okay, more accurately, he didn't let go of a miniature rattle when I placed it in his hand :)
I took a short video of the action which I'll upload soon.

Wow!

Yes, I said wow! Today has been amazing so far! After weeks of tummy upset and fussiness resulting in an overtired Lucas unable to sleep during the day unless taken out in the stroller, the wee laddie is deep in his third nap of the day, and has been a pleasure to put down (instead of the overtired bear that he can often be during the transfer from mummy or daddy's loving arms to crib). He also seems to be taking the process of getting zipped into his snowsuit and strapped into the stroller (and then out again) in stride now. There was still some crying this morning but just a little bit. And best of all, when we went inside a store, Lucas just chilled out and made friendly with the staff. This is a big deal because on previous outings, he'd be seemingly asleep and peaceful outside and then, the minute we were inside, he'd start screaming -- earning me a couple of filthy looks. Today, he just sucked on his soother as the nice grandmotherly shop lady cooed at him. Aww! What a sweet little boy!

First Outing By My Lonesome

I need to update this blog badly. For one thing, the baby was born on January 10th! He is beautiful and his name is Lucas. However, easier said than done. For the time being, I'm going to use this blog to record milestones like yesterday's first outing by myself (sans Liz or Jon) with the baby in the stroller. It was wicked -- it's so important to get out of the house. Stay tuned for some retro posts covering the last eight weeks.

Week 39 and 4 days

Funny how waiting around for the baby to show up can make you uber productive. Here's a photo of the baby blanket I just completed -- my first time quilting.

Week 39

This little guy was finished just the other day. The original pattern (from Wee Wonderfuls) doesn't call for a bow tie, but both Jon and my mom demanded one, so you can thank them for his natty appearance. He's moved into the nursery now.

Week 38

Hope everybody out there had a happy holiday! Ours was swell and was spent up in Uxbridge with Jon's family.
A few developments of note:
1) I officially started my maternity leave on December 21st. So far, I just feel like I'm on vacation.
2) Two friends of mine recently revealed to me that they've become pregnant!
3) The baby reached full term status a week ago, which means he can make his appearance any day now and won't be considered a preemie.
4) According to the midwife, the baby's head is "fixed" (i.e. more or less in birthing position). You're supposed to be able to see a change in the belly when this happens -- it'll look like it's pointing down. I don't know if I can really tell. Check out belly shots from week 36 (wearing dark dress) and today -- week 38 (wearing white sweater). Maybe there is a bit of a dip....

This has nothing to do with the baby

But there's not much going on right now. I did read Rebecca Eckler's Wiped, but it's nothing to write home about, so instead, I offer you this photo of a young man doing a great job of channeling Bob Dylan. I'm super-impressed.
