Feeling quite blue today. My parents are back in Vancouver now. They left two days ago, and it's very jarring not having them around anymore after seeing them pretty much every day for the last month -- something I haven't done since I was 17.
The last four/five weeks have been insanely busy with packing up the old place, moving into the new place (which was attended by major "are we going to close on time?" drama), and settling into the new place.
My parents worked tirelessly and basically did everything that's been done to the house so far, apart from working on the main floor bathroom which Jon is renovating with Rene's help. My parents pulled off the carpet in the third floor bedrooms and two staircases (including pulling up thousands of nails). They painted the bedrooms. They painted the whole of the main floor. They tidied up the garden. They set up the kitchen. They painted the fireplace. They basically pulled off a miracle. I am happy that they got away to the Maritimes for a week late in the month. At least they got to have some fun!
The house is still a mess. We're still waiting on the carpet installers and consequently are sleeping in the dining room, and we've got dozens of boxes everywhere. But it's much better than it was. I sometimes feel that the timing is crazy -- what with a baby on the way and a house to set up. C'est la vie!
Friday night was a bit of a treat. I saw The Drowsy Chaperone with Kathryn at the Elgin Theatre. It was po-mo to the extreme, but I couldn't resist the knowing-ness. It was so spot on, and that kind of faithfulness and depth of knowledge always impresses the heck out of me.
